I remembered being excited by this years ago--the entry to the Pompidou Centre is by escalators that traverse transparent tubes on the outside of the building, providing a grand view both of Paris and of an open sloped area below. Lovers, families, bored teens and clueless tourists sprawl shoeless on a broad cobbled plaza like an open book of posture and personality.

- My first memory is of losing my glasses. Had they not been found, folded carefully on the top edge of the sea wall, where would we be today?
